This cookie policy explains how On The Pass Consultancy, "we", "us" or "our", uses cookies and similar technologies on www.onthepassconsultancy.com. It should be read alongside our privacy policy.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your choices, and to give the site owner information about how the site is being used.
Cookies do not contain viruses and they cannot read other files on your device. Some websites also use similar technologies such as local storage, which works in much the same way and is covered by this policy.
2. How we use them
We use very little. There are only two categories on this site:
- Strictly necessary. Things the site needs in order to work, and to remember the cookie choice you make.
- Analytics, only if you agree to them. Google Analytics, so that we can see which pages are useful and which are not.
We do not use marketing or advertising cookies. We do not sell or share your browsing data, and nothing on this site follows you to other websites.
3. The cookies and storage we use
Strictly necessary, no consent required
These are exempt from the consent requirement because the site cannot work properly without them.
- Your cookie choice. When you accept or reject analytics, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the name
otp-cookie-consent. It is stored on your device only. It is never sent to us and it contains nothing but the word accepted or rejected. Without it the banner would ask you again on every page. - Subscriber sign in. If you subscribe to the blog and sign in, our website platform, Ghost, sets a session cookie so that you stay signed in while you move around the site. If you never sign in, this is never set.
Analytics, set only if you accept them
If, and only if, you press accept on the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4, which sets the following:
_ga, used to tell one visitor from another, expires after about two years._ga_T1FW7E43MN, used to keep track of a single visit, expires after about two years.
We use these to see how many people visit, which pages they read and roughly where in the world they are. IP addresses are anonymised. If you press reject, none of these are set and Google Analytics is never loaded at all.
4. Your choice, and how to change it
The first time you visit, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen with two options, accept analytics and reject analytics. Both carry equal weight and neither is preselected. Doing nothing is not treated as consent, and analytics stays switched off until you actively accept it.
To change your mind at any time, click Cookie settings in the footer of any page. That clears your stored choice, deletes any analytics cookies already on your device, and brings the banner straight back. Withdrawing consent takes exactly one click, the same as giving it. Rejecting analytics does not limit anything on this site.
5. Controlling cookies in your browser
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Every major browser lets you do this, usually under settings, privacy. Blocking all cookies may stop parts of some websites working, though on this site it will only mean the banner reappears each visit.
You can also opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google's own browser add-on.
6. Third parties
Google. Google Analytics is provided by Google. If you accept analytics cookies, Google processes that data on our behalf as our processor, under Google's data processing terms, and we remain responsible for it. If you reject them, no data goes to Google.
Ghost. This website is hosted on Ghost(Pro), which processes data on our behalf as our website platform.
jsDelivr. Some scripts on this site are served from jsDelivr, a content delivery network. It receives your IP address in order to deliver those files. It sets no cookies and does not track you across sites.
We have no other third party tracking on this site. There are no advertising networks, no social media pixels and no session recording.
7. How long the data is kept
The cookies listed above expire on the timescales given. Analytics data held in Google Analytics is retained by Google for 14 months and is then deleted. It is used only in aggregate to understand how the site is performing.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the site changes or if the law does. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If we ever add a new category of cookie, you will be asked for consent again.
9. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
